No home-field advantage: Following an incredibly impressive first-place finish in Japan in April, our Canadian women’s rugby sevens team faltered at home, placing fifth in this weekend’s HSBC’s Rugby Sevens Series tournament in Langford, B.C. New Zealand ended up taking home the gold.
Unfortunately, Canada’s finish didn’t earn them the 2020 Tokyo Olympic berth they were looking for. However, they’ll have another chance to clinch a spot in June during the final Sevens Series tournament in Biarritz, France.
