About The GIST
The GIST creates sports content, experiences and community that are by women and for women. Our mission is to connect and empower women through sports. Our vision is to be the go-to source for sports for women. Right now, The GIST uses an email newsletter, social media, a chatbot and a website to give our community of ‘GISTers’ (what we call our users) ‘the gist’ of what’s happening in the sports world in a really fun, relatable and accessible way, while providing a female voice and perspective in a predominantly male-dominated industry. We are a fast-growing media and technology startup that is quickly expanding its impact both geographically and by content channels.
About the Role
You will be responsible for designing and building a platform for The GIST’s content distribution and community as well as a CMS. This will help The GIST deliver the right content to the right GISTers at the right time and frequency. We want you to create a beautiful, mobile-first experience for our users to consume GIST content and to connect with other GISTers. You’ll also be helping the team leverage existing platforms and channels to manage, optimize and automate The GIST’s content distribution, audience engagement/interaction and data collection & management.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
Building the first version of a web app for the GIST’s content distribution and community interaction
Crafting a mobile-optimized website for GIST users
Integrating a CMS into content operations
Facilitating data collection, management and analytics across platforms that will improve The GIST’s KPI’s
Support email newsletter operations including the development of new email template and to improve email deliverability
Design and implement tests to optimize for key website metrics such as retention, engagement, conversion, time on website
Potential project to build out a custom referral program
This is a full-time role located in Philadelphia with opportunity to work remote.

Have professional experience in web development
Are a full-stack developer with minimum 2 years experience
Preferably have experience in content platforms such as Wordpress
Preferably have strong a strong sense of design/design skills
Have a working knowledge of databases and database design
Have strong critical thinking, communication skills and product sensibilities
Have smarts, humility, and comfort being resourceful in a fast-paced environment
Are able to learn new technologies quickly and create improved efficiency
Embody an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for The GIST’s mission to level the playing field in sports.
Preferably have knowledge of SEO, Google Analytics and Google Tags Manager
Preferably have previous work experience at a startup and/or building new products

The GIST is currently a part of the 2019 cohort of Comcast NBCUniversal Lift Labs Powered by Techstars. This role would provide an opportunity to the candidate to join us in participating in this accelerator program

More about The GIST
We started The GIST because as both casual and avid female fans, we often felt like we were left out of the sports conversation and community. The current sports media outlets made us feel like sports were only for an avid male sports fan. We wanted to change that because we think sports are, and should be, for everyone.
This problem stems from a major lack of diversity in the sports industry — only 14% of sports journalists are females, only 4% of sports media coverage is on female athletes, female athletes receive only 0.4% of endorsement money and less than 5% of c-suite executives in sport are women. So it’s really no wonder why sometimes sports can feel like a guys thing. The GIST exists to change these stats.
