Are you picking up what we’re putting down? We hope so. So, what’s next?
Write us a newsletter. You read that right. We want to see what your GIST newsletter would be like without our influence. Send us a newsletter anytime between 6 a.m. -9 a.m. ET on Monday, June 17th AND on Thursday, June 20th (highly suggested you write the night before and schedule your email to be sent the following morning). Yes, you’ll be writing two newsletters to simulate what it would be like if you were to be The GIST’s Content Contributor. Send the newsletter to firstname.lastname@example.org.
While we love a beautifully formatted newsletter, we understand it can be difficult without an account to an email software. No worries if your newsletter is not formatted.
Your newsletter should be similar to ours in that it is covering current events in sports, writing for the same audience and has a similar brand voice. Check out our prior newsletters on our website for reference.
While a writer located in the GTA is preferred, the majority of the role is going to be remote so don’t let that be a deterrent to you applying.
Don’t forget a cheeky subject line!
After that, we’ll be requesting resumes from candidates who wrote our fave newsletters. Candidates with the best newsletters and most applicable resumes based on the qualifications above will be asked to interview on June 26th and 27th in downtown Toronto. Keep your calendars open. Start date is July 7th.
About The GIST
We started The GIST because as both casual and avid female fans, we often felt like we were left out of the sports conversation and community. The current sports media outlets made us feel like sports were only for an avid male sports fan. We wanted to change that because we think sports are, and should be, for everyone.
This problem stems from a major lack of diversity in the sports industry — only 14% of sports journalists are females, only 4% of sports media coverage is on female athletes, female athletes receive only 0.4% of endorsement money and less than 5% of c-suite executives in sport are women. So it’s really no wonder why sometimes sports can feel like a guys thing. The GIST exists to change these stats.
That’s #thegist of it. We can’t wait to read your newsletters and hope to meet you soon.
